It all started with 'Kim and Sean'

Kim Conti and Sean Verne, the owners of Pawprints, came to the pet care business from entirely different worlds.  Kim has spent 20 years in the corporate world, as a medical device sales representative, while Sean’s career has been spent as an entrepreneur in health and fitness.  It was their mutual love of dogs that drove them to create Pawprints.  However, it was the same love for their own respective dogs which almost kept them from being a couple.

When they first met, Sean’s dog Pooch, a rescued Lab mix, had some dog aggression issues.  Kim’s pride and joy, Keisha (a Poodle Spitz mix) was a dominant female.  Their biggest concern was not how their families would get along, but if their dogs were compatible.  Ultimately things worked out between the dogs, who have been happily living together as brother and sister for the past 10 years.  But the experience taught Kim and Sean an important lesson.  When given the chance to socialize most dogs will resolve their behavioral issues. This has served as the fundamental building block for Pawprints.  We believe socialized dogs become better pets, companions and family members.

Kim’s knowledge of dogs began, as many trainers do, with training her own dog.  She enrolled her newly purchased puppy, Keisha, in “Kindergarten” at Misty Pines Dog Park in Pittsburgh.  It was a year of Saturday mornings, Kim and Keisha going to class.  In the rain, the snow the occasional sunny day they were there learning together.  Kim’s experience training her own dog at Misty Pines became the inspiration for opening Pawprints.  Her time spent attending puppy kindergarten, obedience and obstacle course classes gave Kim an understanding of her dog which allows them to communicate to this day.

Misty Pines Dog Park laid the foundation for Kim’s understanding of dog behavior.  It provided a framework for her future education and ultimately a vision of what could become a business.  Misty Pines’ founder, Jeff Woods, has impacted the lives thousands of dogs and their owners over the years. His willingness to share information and answer any question has enabled Kim and Sean to realize this dream.
